Canadian Doctors for Medicare hosted a celebration of Medicare in Canada. The speakers included Roy Romanow, former Saskatchewan Premiere and Commissioner on Health Care in Canada. They tell Americans that Canadian universal health care works and encourage Americans to implement a single payer universal health care system. The video also features Dr. Steven Lewis a health policy and research consultant, Dr. Danielle Martin, Dr. Ryan Meili and Dr. Robert Woolard representing the Canadian Doctors for Medicare and Linda Silas President of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.

@brewzur 60%?? What a pile of crap. No one in Canada pays 60% taxes. And, a report from 2008 shows Canada pays the 99th highest taxes in the world. A far cry from your claim. I make low 6 figures and, after deductions, paid 25% in total income taxes. Even if I add all the other taxes, (GST, PST, property, etc) I calculated it out to be around 35%. In addition, one of the only provinces that has a low monthly fee, outside of their taxes, is B.C.

A social welfare gvnt proposes that people must be cntrolled by the state simply because a small minority will faall in the cracks. the real issue is, Whi pays for it and who benefits from it. Most obese, out of shape idiots who earn 20k per year are thrilled to have a FREE system because they do not pay for it. Whie those who support it often don’t use it as much since there is a real corrolation between income, education and health. The higher the level of education, the higher the income and the LEAST you need it.

The sad and simple thing is that Us americans have seeing our government bring our medicare, medicaid, Tricare, etc. to a state of bankcruptcy. And now they expect us citizens to place our trust, our tax money into their hands and into corporate health insurances along to corporate hospitals, pharamceuticals which have a choke inthe control of medical care prices. Making it now a criminal act if you don’t have a medical insurance regardless if you’re unemployed.

Unfortunately, in many cases, particularly federal income taxes, Americans pay more than Canadians, especially at the higher income levels. And to make matters worse, at least Canadians receive something for their tax dollars.
